End of 2018

Hey everyone! Most people do a top ten or bottom ten of the year. However, I didn’t see most of the movies that would be considered the best or the worst this year. I’ll instead use this space to be more positive, highlighting movies that surprised me that I saw this year and look ahead to next year.

Unexpected Loves
The Gumball Rally(1976)
I’ve already reviewed this movie, so I won’t rehash it too much. In short, I went in only knowing the title and came out with a very fun and entertaining movie.
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls(1970)
This movie is electrifying, in that every frame is full of this weird energy that had my eyes glued to the screen the whole time. This movie is a masterpiece chronicling a band becoming a sensation. And that’s all you should know before going in.
A Simple Favor (2018)
At first, this movie got on my nerves because the dialogue seemed it was trying too hard to be “edgy”. However, towards the end, I was having a blast, with the many plot developments reminding me of Wild Things in how enjoyably convoluted it could get. Towards the end, I was probably the only in that theatre cackling.
Teeth (2007)
Yes, that movie. Yep, the one with the toothed vagina. Yes, I’m being serious. I genuinely think this movie is good. It’s full of intentional humor (much of it dark), has good acting, is satirical of asinine abstinence-only education, and deals with themes of society’s obsession with “preserving purity and innocence” (especially with females) and how that damages one’s self-worth.

Now, as per custom with year-end retrospectives, I shall look ahead with my most anticipated of next year. These aren’t the only movies I look forward to but the ones that have stuck in my head enough to remember at the moment

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Tarantino. Charles Manson. A look at the 1960’s. What more do I have to say?
Us
This will be Jordan Peele’s second time as writer/director after he knocked it out the park with Get Out. This movie promises to be a “social thriller” like his previous effort.
It: Chapter Two
All three of us really liked the first one and my sister is a fan of the book. Let’s hope this movie lives up to it.
Happy Death Day: 2U
I’ve heard that the first movie was terrific and plan to see it before this one. Plus that title is just adorable.
New Mutants
I have no idea why I’m looking forward to this, but I am.

I wish for you all to have a good 2019. Thanks for visiting our site.
